MUMBAI: Hours after the wedding Ramcharan Teja spoke exclusively and briefly to us. “It’s been one hectic morning for me. That I am married now is yet to to sink in. All I can tell you at the moment is,it’s been the best experience of my life.”
Priyanka Chopra couldn’t make it to her Zanjeer co-star Ramcharan Teja’s wedding. But she flew in a wedding gift specially from Mumbai to Hyderabad by hand-delivery.
Says a friend of Ramcharan, “Priyanka wanted to attend. But she couldn’t because of her promotion of Teri Meri Kahani. But she handpicked a gift for Ramcharan’s wife Upasana and had it hand-delivered with the promise that she’d come and meet the couple at the earliest.”
The Big B of course is known to revel in impossible schedules. Taking time off from shooting for Kaun Banega Crorepati he flew into Hyderabad for the wedding at 9 am in a private jet and flew back at 3 pm.
There was some amount of, shall we say, shift of focus when 30 minutes after Rajnikanth, the Big B arrived at the wedding.
Says an invitee from the wedding, “The crowds were simmering with excitememt too see the Telugu icon Chiranjeevi and the Tamil icon Rajnikanth together. But the minute the Big B arrived the entire focus shifted to him.”
Abhishek Bachchan , a dear friend of Ramcharan, couldn’t attend because he’s out of the country.
Though the Hyderabad paparazzi didn’t get the much-awaited pictures of Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Chiranjeevi together, the Bollywood and South Indian film industry’s turn-out at Ramcharan Teja’s wedding on Thursday morning was hugely impressive.
Kamal Haasan tried his best to make it. But he finally sent Ramcharan a message through a common friend offering his apologies and promising to show up in Hyderabad in the next week to bless the couple.
Boney Kapoor and Sridevi, producer Madhu Mantena, and Reliance’s Sanjeev Lamba were other Bollywood guests. But the morning belonged to the Telugu film industry.
Says an invitee, “Every one of Chiranjeevi’s and Ramcharan’s costars were there. So were the most prominent politicians. There was no separate VIP entry-exit for the 4,500 guests. Everyone came and went through one gate. This created some kind of a confusion when the newly-married couple had to leave the venue. The wedding took only 45 minutes. But it took the couple five hours to get to their car,since they had to stop and chat with at least 2,000 people on the way.”
Curiously no one from Ramcharan’s Zanjeer team showed up at the wedding.Apparently director Apoorva Lakhia had a family enagagement, so they all stayed away.
“But we’re all leaving for Hyderabad very shortly with our gifts. There’s at least 3 days of festivity and at least 7 functions to still catch,” said Lakhia when contacted.
