Prosenjit leaves Dibakar’s Shanghai to attend Shanghai Film Festival

MUMBAI: This has to the cutest coincidence in the history of Indian cinema. While Bengali superstar Prosenjit was shooting for Dibakar Bannerjee’s Shanghai in Latur, he got to know that his highly-acclaimed Bengali film Moner Manush had been selected in prestigious competition section of the Shanghai Film Festival. What’s more, Moner Manush is the only Indian film to be selected for the honour.

Prosenjit along with the Moner Manush director Gautam Ghose had to leave immediately for Shanghai.

This was one time when Bannerjee didn’t mind his actor taking off. On the contrary, there was all-round jubilation in Latur with Prosenjit’s co-stars urging the Bengali superstar to take a flight out to Shanghai. Apparently the crew even offered to hire a private chartered plane for Prosenjit to make it Shanghai in time for the screening of Moner Manush.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com from Shanghai, Prosenjit said, “It was quite an honour and what a coincidence! I was shooting for a film called Shanghai when I was asked to leave for Shanghai.”

“Moner Manush means a lot to Dibakar and and to the film Shanghai. Dibakar decided to cast me in Shanghai after seeing my work in Moner Manush. Ours is the only Indian film in the ‘competition’ section. We’re screening the film on 17 June here in Shanghai,” Prosenjit added.
other releases namely Bin Bulaye Baraati, Cycle Kick and Bhindi Baazar Inc saw poor collections.
