Pyaar Ke Side Effects

Director: Saket Chaudhary

Cast: Rahul Bose, Mallika Sherawat, Tarana Raja, Sophie Chaudhary, Suchitra Pillai, Ranvir Shorey, Sharat Saxena and Jas Arora

A character driven story, Pyaar Ke Side Effects has a better storyboard than the other films releasing this week. The USP of the film is the unusual cast comprising Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat.

Sid (Rahul Bose) is watching an important cricket match but is stumped when his girlfriend Trisha (Mallika Sherawat) asks him to marry her. But Trisha’s father General Mallik (Sharat Saxena) is to Sid like what Darryl Hair is to Inzamam Ul Haq. And like most fathers who dislike sons in law, the film moves into the same space.

Tarana Raja as Rahul’s pregnant sister, Suchitra Pillai and Ranvir Shorey as Sid’s friends add interesting cameos.

Mallika is hot and has some good dialogues to mouth and Rahul too has some interesting lines. And it is these lines, which hold the film in the face of an untested pair that has too many side effects in the commercial format of filmmaking leading to multiplexes being the only saviour despite hot Mallika’s presence.

The overtly English title could also work against the film’s commercial prospects in the single screens. But keeping in mind the meager budget of the film, it could help the film favourably. The Rs 4.5 million (Rs 45 lakhs) paid to Mallika as her fees is probably the only thing justified in the film.
