MUMBAI: Rani Mukherji seems to be following her cousin Kajol’s footsteps. No, she is not getting married and having babies. Rather, the actress is taking a leaf from Kajol’s book by making her way back into the limelight after a long hiatus by doing advertisements.
Rani was last seen in public when she went all out to promote her film, Pradeep Sarkar’s Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag. After the film failed to get audiences into the theatres and was declared a failure, Rani disappeared from the scene.
The actress was missing from award functions as well as film premieres. To keep the finances going, Rani continued doing private shows. She was present with Shah Rukh Khan for the much publicized King Khan nite at a wedding in April this year and also flew to Malaysia with SRK for an event recently. But as far as the general public is concerned, the last they saw of the dusky actress was almost two years ago.
Now that Rani’s film, Dil Bole Hadiapa from the Yash Raj Films’ stable is releasing on 18 September, the actress is using the medium of ads to weave her way back into the public eye. She has just recently shot for the Dabur Vatika brand and the ads have hit television screens.
Says a trade analyst, "It is like Rani of Hum Tum. The same styling has been repeated and she is looking very good."
Prior to that ad, Rani was seen in the Good Knight commercial. Although the commercial was not worth remembering, Rani shed all her weight and her svelte figure in a ghagra choli was there for all to see.
Shahid Kapur is her co-star in Dil Bole Hadiapa. With Shahid’s boyish looks, senior actresses are at a disadvantage. Vidya Balan’s pairing up with him in Kismat Konnection did not work. So one does wonder, what will be the chemistry between him and Rani in Dil Bole Hadippa.
