Shahid Kapur on Star Voice of India

MUMBAI: This weekend on Amul Star Voice of India, actor Shahid Kapur will mesmerize one and all with his dancing skills while also displaying his singing prowess. The episode will be aired on 19 and 20 October at 10 pm on Star Plus.

The theme will be old songs v/s new songs will have the contestants taking the viewers down the memory lane as they sing the golden oldies while also singing foot-tapping contemporary numbers to entertain the audiences.

Keeping the flavor of the festive season of Navratri, the contestants begin with a medley of songs like Main to bhool chali, Hey naam Re, Dholi Taro. All the boys dance with the only girl in the contest. The contestants are amazed at Shahid’s down to earth nature as he interacts with them without having any qualms and is seen having fun with them while they are performing. When asked about the various trends in music the actor said “nothing can replace the golden age of music, but every generation takes the music forward; hence it is important that there is a good balance between old and new songs.”

The contestants sang golden favorites like Gulabi Ankhen, Aaj kal tere mere, O Haseena Zulfo Wali, Ruk Jaana O Jaana, Rafta Rafta, and O Mere Sona re Sona. Shahid was bowled over by Priyani’s voice and suggested that she should sing some of the songs for his heroines in the near future. On Irfan’s request, Shahid comes and sets the stage ablaze by dancing to the song Aaja Ve Mahi and when the Punjab da Puttar Ishmeet asks him to join in to sing Mauja Mauja, Shahid surprises everybody with his singing talent.

Saturday evening is a ‘sher o shayari’ & Qawalli special with Music Maestros Ustad Amjad Ali and Pankaj Udhas as celebrity guests. The sets are designed to create a Mehfil ambience and the contestants are dressed for the occasion. The five finalists begin with the famous qawalli ‘Hai agar Dushman…’ that leaves everybody spell-bound. Qawallis being the forte of Toshi, sings Allah hu to perfection, showing his command over songs of this genre. All judges are in a trance and praise him saying ‘Zuban Allah’. Ismeet sings Yaari Hai Imaan, while young Abhaas sings Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai with Panache. When Hyderabad lad Irfan sang Piya Haji Ali, he created an ‘Ibadat ka mahaul’ leaving everyone spiritually satiated. Harshit with his strong voice sang Kabhi Bebasi Ne which made the ustad say “Bahut khoobsurat’.
