Spotboy’s film by Benegal goes on floors

MUMBAI: UTV Spotboy’s new movie Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, which is being directed by veteran director Shyam Benegal, has gone on floors.

The movie stars Shreyas Talpade, Amrita Rao and Ravi Kissen. With Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, Benegal makes his foray into the comedy genre. This is also the first time that the three actors in the film have ever teamed up with Benegal.

The storyline of the film revolves around Mahadev, who is one of the few educated young men from Sajjanpur. His ambition is to be novelist but he finds it easier to make a living by writing letters sitting next to the post office. His ability to write persuasive letters makes him popular with the largely non-literate population of the town.

One day, an attractive young woman Kamala, wants to get a letter writing to her husband who has migrated to Mumbai to make a living. It turns out that she was in school with Mahadev when they were children. Seeing her, Mahadev’s latent love for her is awakened. In order to make her fall in love with him, he writes to her husband in ways that will alienate both of them from each other. He almost succeeds in his plans until an event takes place that transforms him from a villainous cad to a copybook hero.

Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur is a satirical take on a contemporary Indian village.
