This movie focuses not only on the power of a massive rogue wave that overturns a luxury cruise ship in open water but on the intense dramas that play out among a small group of people fighting to survive in its aftermath. Watch some never seen before behind-the-scenes footage of Poseidon, this Sunday, May 7th at 8 30 p.m. only on “Opening Night” on Star Movies.
Opening Night will not only showcase clippings of the unreleased movie, but will also take you behind the scenes into the grand sets of the ship- one of which is the right-side-up and the other on is identical, but is built upside-down. Watch acclaimed director Wolfgang Peterson and producer Akiva Goldsman talk about their genuine fondness and respect for the original film. They talk about how they began with the same concept and used it as a catalyst for a fresh story, with an all-new screenplay and original, contemporary characters.
Star Movies will present a sneak peek into this exciting remake, based on the original film, The Poseidon Adventure which was released in 1972. It’s New Year’s Eve and festivities have begun aboard the luxury cruise ship Poseidon, at sea in the North Atlantic. Many of the ship’s guests have gathered to greet the new year on style in the magnificent Main Ballroom. They raise champagne glasses as captain Bradford (Andre Braugher) delivers a holiday toast and the band (led by Stacy Ferguson, aka Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas) rolls into a version of “Auld Lang Syne”. Meanwhile, on the bridge, the Chief Officer senses that something is wrong. Scanning the horizon, he sees it- a rogue wave; a wall of water over 150 feet high, bearing down on them. He tries to steer the ship away from maximum impact but it’s too late!!!
Presented by rising star Terence Yin (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, New Police Story), Opening Night gives you an up-close and intimate view of the most anticipated films before their general release. Previous episodes of this hit show has featured Hollywood blockbusters like Pink Panther, Ice Age 2, Chicken Little, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Fantastic Four, Robots, Ocean’s Twelve, I- Robot, Ladder 49, Lemony Snickets: A series of unfortunate events, Kingdom of Heaven, The Goal and King Kong.
