Mumbai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has given many reasons for the Tamil Film Industry to smile. While presenting the maiden budget of the DMK government the chief minister announced many sops for the film fraternity.
He announced total exemption from entertainment tax for all the new Tamil films, provided they are all titled in Tamil. He further announced a Rs 9.5 million financial assistance for the film being made on rationalist leader Periyar. His government also declared the plans for constructing a state-of-the-art film city.
These concessions showered upon the industry have met with favourable response from the Tamil film industry. The producers expressing their happiness have complimented the timing of the sops that have been announced when the industry is facing severe crisis.
The Tamil Film Producer Council, Tamil Directors Association and Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association have all thanked the Chief Minister welcoming the concessions for the Tamil Film Industry.
