UTV inks movie deal with Kher & Kaushik

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has another deal up its sleeve. The company has signed a co-production deal with Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik’s Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment. With an objective to produce four films a year and test different genres, both Kher and Kaushik will direct one movie each and produce the others.

While UTV will co-produce, market and distribute all these productions, Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment will focus on creative development and line production.

UTV Motion Pictures senior vice president creative and projects Ram Mirchandani says, “We are the number one studio, so why not venture in different avenues. The first film is titled Dosti and the story revolves around two guys and how their life shapes up. The movie is still at the scripting level and will hit the floors next year. The star cast has not yet been decided.”

The other movie is called Hawai Dada, a story about a grandfather and his granddaughter.

Talking about the budget, Kher says, “There are no budget constraints. It can be a Rs 20 crore (Rs 200 million) budget as well as a Rs 3 crore (Rs 30 million) one. It will totally depend on the script, as that’s the hero of any film.”

About the deal with UTV, Kher says, “I believe this is a historical deal and we are happy to be associated with them.”

Kaushik, who has been making serious films, has a love story in mind for his new project under this collaboration. “I have already started scripting this film. It’s going to be a romantic storyline. I will soon start the casting for this film.”

Kher and Kaushik’s first co-production together under Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment, Teree Sang is slated to release this October, which stars Ruslaan Mumtaaz and Sadna Singh’s daughter.
