Viacom 18 launches new banner for youth-centric films

MUMBAI: Viacom 18 Motion Pictures (Studio 18) is looking at tapping the youth and has launched a new banner called Tipping Point Films for the same. The banner will focus on youth-centric films plans are to produce approximately 3 – 4 movies every year under new brand.
Tipping Point Films will cater to the evolving sensibilities of the urban Indian youth by offering edgy and engaging film content to this audience segment. The Indian youth constitutes a significant chunk of audience and is the fastest growing. The new banner will bring content of diverse genres that focuses towards the youth.
 
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Viacom 18 chief operating officer Vikram Malhotra says, “The youth is going to form the market of the future therefore Tipping Point Films will focus on content for the urban Indian youth.”
 
Malhotra said the budget of the films that will be made under the new banner will vary from film to film. “The brand will be distinguished by audience and not budget,” he added.
There are currently three films that are being made under the Tipping Point Films brand. The first is Shaitan, which will be directed by Bijoy Nambiar and stars Kalki Koechlin, Shiv Pandit and Rajat Kapoor. The second film is Michael, which will be directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and stars Nasseruddin Shah and Mahie Gill amongst others. The third is Gangs of Wasseypur to be directed by Anurag Kashyap. All three films will be co-produced by Kashyap.
As was reported earlier by Businessofcinema.com, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has lined up seven films with a total budget of more than Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore). The other films that are in the pipeline from Viacom 18 Motion Pictures are Buddah, which is a co-production with Amitabh Bachchan’s AB Corp. The movie will be directed by Puri Jagannath (Pokiri) and will be made on a budget of approximately Rs 250 – 280 million (Rs 25 – 28 crore) with Bachchan in the lead. The other films are the official remake of Chashme Buddoor, which will be directed by David Dhawan; the official remake of The Italian Job – titled Players, which stars Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Omi Vaidya, Bobby Deol, Sikandar Kher, Johnny Lever, Bipasha Basu and Sonam Kapoor and Tanu Weds Manu, which stars R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut.
