Vikram Bhatt’s Red awaits censor clearance

MUMBAI: Horseshoe Picture’s Red – The Dark Side, stalled by the censors due to some scenes reportedly depicting explicit sex, will now be watched by the Censor Board’s tribunal committee.

The film is slated for a 2 March 2007 release all over. Says one of the film’s producers, Sunil Chainani, “We will get the censorship certificate in two to three days.”

“We are releasing the film ourselves in the Bombay circuit on 2 March 2007. Abhi Films will release in Delhi-UP; Shri Lakshmi Movies in east Punjab; Kajal Films in West Bengal; RS Films in Rajasthan; K Sera Sera Productions in Nizam; Kamal Films in Mysore; Eshwar International in Bihar; Shibani Pictures in Orissa; Ruby Touch Entertainment (P) Ltd. in CP; Rupali Entertainment in CI; Ashirwad Films in Andhra and Adlabs in overseas.”

Most of the distributors appear gung ho about the film’s prospects, with the average price for a major territory going around Rs 4 – 5 million (Rs 40 – 50 lakhs) with few prints. The distributors’ hopes seem to be riding high on Himesh Reshammiya’s music and the reportedly steamy scenes the film is peppered with.

Directed by Vikram Bhatt, Red stars Aftab Shivdasani, Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora and Sushant Singh.
