MUMBAI: Irrfan Khan turned down a role in ‘The Dark Knight’ director Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘Interstellar’. In the past, the Bollywood actor has acted in Hollywood films like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Life of Pi’.
Irrfan Khan says, “I was in talks with them for an important role. It had a great compact cast, but I can’t divulge much about that. They expected a huge commitment from my end. I had to stay in the US for four months at a stretch. I tried to work out my schedule and suggested if I could shuttle between India and the US as it wouldn’t have been possible for me to be there for that long. I wanted to be here for ‘The Lunchbox‘ and ‘D-Day’. They couldn’t allow that.”
Four months does seem like a long time, but for a science-fiction film that deals with time-travel and wormholes, it looks like the film will have a lot of effects. Also knowing Christopher Nolan’s preference for practical effects over digital ones, there will be a lot of physical stuntwork involved.
The actor then added, “I don’t have a tendency to regret what I do, but knowing it’s a Christopher Nolan film, I can say that this has been one of the most difficult decisions I’ve made.”
The illustrious actor was last seen in Bollywood film ‘D-Day’ and will next be seen in ‘The Lunchbox’. It is truly disappointing that he will not get to act in ‘Interstellar’. If Irrfan Khan had agreed, we would see him act alongside Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine.
Irrfan Khan was one of the first few Bollywood actors in recent times to work in Hollywood productions. Besides him, actors like Anil Kapoor, Tabu, Amrish Puri, Amitabh Bachchan have also appeared in Hollywood films.
‘Interstellar’ started filming recently (Read story here) and will release on 7 November, 2014.
