Dedicated to the memory of Yash Chopra – The King Of Romance, the awards will be given to people to recognise their contribution in the field of art and culture.

Simi Garewal said, “The National Yash Chopra Memorial Award is something similar to the Dadasaheb Phalke awards. Most of the younger generation isn’t aware of the significance of the Phalke awards. With Yash Chopra and an awards in his name, people of all ages will connect and creativity will be encouraged.”

Lata Mangeshkar will be the first recipient of the award and it will be given to her at an event on 19 October at Grand Hyatt. Lata Mangeshkar has sung many hit songs for Yash Chopra in his films.

It is a huge honour for the singer to be the first to win the prestigious award. A grand event with leading Bollywood stars has been planned. The event is being convened by television giants Anu Ranjan and Shashi Ranjan.

Yash Chopra had last directed ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ with Shah Rukh Khan, and unfortunately couldn’t see the release of the film. With a great award being named in his name, the director’s legacy and the eternal king of romance’s memory will continue to reign in our hearts.
