“Chintu (Rishi Kapoor) has played in my arms when he was just two years and I am very fond of him since then. He is one of my favorite actors and I have seen all his films till date, I like his acting and dancing both. I am so happy today he is here to receive this award.” stated Bharat Ratna recipient Lata Mangeshkar as she went down memory lane.
Felicitating Ustad Zakir Hussain, she said that she remembered him accompanying his father Ustad Allah Rakha who used to treat her like his daughter.
“Once I recorded six songs in a day for him for a movie. Today, I am so happy that Ustad Zakir Hussain has grown as a prominent artiste making us proud all over the world,” she said.
Anna Hazare said that when Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar travelled all the way to his village Ralegan-Siddhi in Ahmednagar, to request him to be there for the function, something he could not refuse. Anna further added that had Hridaynath even made a call to him he would have never refuse such an honour.
“I told him he could have just telephoned me and I would have accepted it. Though in the past I have been offered an award with a cash prize of one crore rupees, I declined it as I was unsure of the organizers. But when the Mangeshkars approached me I had no doubts and I happily agreed,” Anna Hazare said.
