Samar Sheikh started his career as an illustrator and worked on films like Fanaa, Chak De India and Tashan. He made his directorial debut with Bollywood’s first female detective film Bobby Jasoos. The film starred Bollywood’s one of the finest actress Vidya Balan as the protagonist and Ali Faizal. Though the film did not garner much at the box office and was criticized for weak plot, it was only Vidya that made the film work with her outstanding performance. The actress donned various looks and carried them off well. Hence, we could say it was not a bad start for the director.
