Aamir Khan has decided to attend the opening ceremony of the 11th Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) on December 12, 2013. Aamir shall bear his own expenses for the trip to the Tamil Nadu capital thus following on the footsteps of veteran Amitabh Bachchan, who had attended the event last year at his own expense.
The Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) is an eight-day festival that is being organized by the Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation in association with the government of Tamil Nadu.
“Aamir Khan has agreed to grace the opening ceremony of our fest (CIFF). He said he will be there with his assistants on his own and that we only had to tell him when, where and to which hotel he should come,” said the festival organizer actress Suhasini Mani Ratnam.
This was not easy for Suhasini. She has been chasing Aamir from the past three years and has finally got him to agree to be the part of this festival.
Suhasini is very happy and touched by Aamir’s gesture. She informed us that last year, even Mr. Bachchan did the same thing as he did not expect our support and even donated a sum of Rs 11 lakh towards the Film Festival.
The opening day of the festival will feature performances by actress-dancer Shobana, Swarnamalya, singer Karthik and Anil Srinivasan.
Malayalam actor Mohanlal has consented to being a part of the closing ceremony of the fest which will witness the live performance of Southern composer Anirudh Ravichander, who will receive the special award constituted in the name of Mr. Bachchan called The Amitabh Bachchan Youth Icon Award.
Award winning films from international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice will be screened at CIFF this year. Critically acclaimed Italian drama Great Beauty, French romantic drama Young And The Beautiful and Japanese drama Like Father Like Son will be screened as part of the festival.
For the fourth year in a row, CIFF has included a special competition section to honour the best Tamil films. As many as twelve films such as Haridas, Paradesi, Soodhu Kavvum, Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer, and Kumki among many more will vie for the prize money of Rs 6 lac.
Here’s wishing the entire team of The Chennai International Film Festival, the participants as well as the delegates all the best!
