MUMBAI: 1983’s ‘Masoom’ is one of Bollywood’s all-time classic, and Himesh Reshammiya recently bought the remake rights of the film from the original producers Chanda Dutt and Devi Dutt.
He now wants the husband-wife pair of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to depict the husband and wife in the film, originally played by Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi.
The remake will be directed by Bedobrata Pain, who directed last year’s critically-acclaimed film ‘Chittagong’. According to a source, both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have agreed in principle to star in the film. “Now the details are being worked out,” the source said.
Reports initially said that Bedobrata Pain was looking to cast Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who had acted in ‘Chittagong’ for ‘Naseeruddin Shah’s role. But it now seems like that did not pan out.
The original ‘Masoom’ was director Shekhar Kapur’s debut film and the screenplay and lyrics were penned by Gulzar, while its music was composed by RD Burman. The film, a hit and a tearjerker, was based on Erich Segal’s book ‘Man, Woman And Child’.
