MUMBAI: Bollywood ace filmmaker Karan Johar is well on his way to Marrakech, to attend the International Film Festival being held there.
We spotted the jovial Johar at the Mumbai airport, in a slightly different avatar. The man, who is usually so very nattily dressed at red-carpet and A-list events, chose to go casual for the long flight. He wore a pair of jeans, a black tee and a complementary navy blue jacket. Karan Johar’s iconic films are going to be screened at the Marrakech International Film Festival, to be held from November 30 to December 8.
‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, released in 2001, will be screened on the opening night, and the event is expected to be attended by megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Karan Johar himself. On Dec 2nd, two of Karan’s latest films, ‘Agneepath’ and ‘Student Of The Year’, will be screened.
The filmmaker will be accompanied by veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor for the ‘Agneepath’ screening. Rishi Kapoor had played an integral role in the film, so the choice was but natural to have him at the film festival. For ‘SOTY’, the stars of the film, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, will join Johar.
Johar of course, is thrilled with the selection of his films, “It’s a great tribute for the Indian film fraternity to be honoured at an international platform such as this. The fest also has a special emotional connect with me because my films, such as ‘Kabhi Khushi…’ have a vast audience in Morocco.”
And not to forget, this being the centenary year of the Indian film industry, the film fest officials have decided to pay a tribute to the industry. As Hindi cinema completes 100 years in 2013, there will be a special tribute for Indian cinema, with several of India’s finest films being screened here at Marrakech.
