Akshay stayed in a room above the restaurant he worked in as a worker. There were two more boys who used to share the dingy room with him.
He started out in Bollywood as a lightman to Jayesh Seth and assisted him while he shot the likes of Govinda and Sangeeta Bijlani. Govinda had suggested him to become an actor.
Akshay almost cried when he missed his flight Bangalore where he was supposed to model for a product. But fate had something in store for him. That very day he landed his first film as a hero titled Saugandh by Pramod Chakroborty. He got into a three-film deal with him.
Akshay used to be considered a B-grade actor but the tag never bothered. He kept on working and today, he is one of the highest paid A-listers.
