Akshay Kumar To Steal SRK’s Thunder

There may be a one-week gap between the release of 'Chennai Express' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara' but looks like Ekta Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and their team want to take away the spotlight from Shah Rukh Khan and his 'Chennai Express' team.

MUMBAI: Just sometime ago, a huge clash was averted when ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’ postponed its release to a week after ‘Chennai Express’. The final release dates now are 9 August, 2013 for ‘Chennai Express’ on Eid, and 15 August, 2013 for ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’ on Independence Day.

But it looks like Ekta Kapoor and team are not content with having only a clear window. Balaji Motion Pictures has planned a huge event to celebrate Eid, and thus take the spotlight away from ‘Chennai Express’.

It is learnt that the film’s superstars will be celebrating Eid at Dubai during that weekend and at the same time a two-hour-long show will be telecast on a leading channel during prime time, just to promote ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’. Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan will appear together on television for the first time for this TV show.

Sources say that this will be the most expensive standalone show ever put up on television to promote a single film. “It will be an elaborate show featuring comedians, top TV actors and the stars of OUATIMD. The actors will perform on several songs from the film,” the source added.

Battle lines are drawn. Now it’s time for the battle to begin.
