Bollwood’s Shahensha Amitabh Bachchan came forward and politely disagreed with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s suggestion. Apparently, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee suggested that Amitabh Bachchan should have been honoured with the Bharat Ratna instead of Padma Vibhushan.
Banerjee took to her Twitter account to express her views and posted her suggestion. She tweeted, “Amitabh Bachchan is a legend in his lifetime. Padma Vibhushan is not enough. Somebody of his stature deserves a Bharat Ratna.”
Big B, who is recipient of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, took to Twitter and responded to Banerjee’s tweet.
“@MamataOfficial Mamata di… I am not deserving of such recognition… Most humbled and honoured by what the Nation has given me..!!,” Bachchan tweeted.
This year Amitabh Bachchan is chosen for the second highest civilian award of the country, Padma Vibhushan along with veteran actor Dilip Kumar and seven others.
Amitabh Bachchan thanked the government on his Facebook page after receiving the Padma Vibhushan and also mentioned the record of his family when it comes to the Padma Awards.
He posted, “The Government of India has decorated me today with the highest Padma Award of the country, the Padma Vibhushan. I have no words to express my gratitude to the powers that be and am most humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of the people that decide or sit on judgement on this. In the family now we have a combined list of 7 such awards of the highest national acclaim. My Father (Harivansh Rai Bachchan): Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan. Jaya: Padma Shri. Aishwarya: Padma Shri. AB: (Amitabh Bachchan) Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan.”
