MUMBAI: Bollywood film premieres only seem to get bigger and better with time. Case in point was veteran singer Asha Bhonsle’s film premiere of ‘Mai’, which saw the who’s who of Bollywood, gathered under one roof.
Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha were spotted at the event, at the same time, enjoying the emotionally moving film. Mr. Bachchan chose a traditional white shawl to drape over his white kurta-pyjama, while Rekha was ethereal as always in a red kanjeevaram. Sridevi managed to drop in, looking effortlessly chic and wearing her age lightly in a gold lame blouse and black skinny jeans. Anil Kapoor swaggered in with director Farah Khan and his daughter Sonam Kapoor (stunning us in a hand-printed red designer sari).
Also present at the premiere were Poonam Dhillon, Shatrughan Sinha with his wife Poonam, Kajol and her mother, with Tanisha Mukherjee (with the three ladies choosing to wear traditional Indian clothes to the premiere), Boman Irani and Tejaswini Kolhapure. Jackie Shroff came along, in a brown suede jacket and a newsboy cap.
The star of the film, Asha Bhonsle walked in before all her guests did, and was seen welcoming each one personally. Looking regal in a gold sari, the smooth-voiced singer was ecstatic about her big screen debut.
