Did Anurag Kashyap Just Blame Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan For Studios Shutting Down?

Last week, Disney India, owned by UTV motion pictures, announced that they are drawing curtains on its Hindi film production business. Immediately, there were reports that Balaji Motion Pictures are planning to shut their production business after back-to-back flops. Soon after the news of production houses shutting down, director-producer Anurag Kashyap was quick enough to react on the same.

The director-producer, who is known for his straightforward attitude, stated that he himself is responsible for his film Bombay Velvet’s flop. Talking to DNA, he said, “When I see the stories about studios shutting down and then there’s the image of Bombay Velvet right at the top, I do feel responsible. It hurts.”

Well, a lot more can go wrong while filming. In the case of Bombay Velvet, it was surprising that the film was made on the budget of Rs 84 crore. And there was no way that the film could cover the cost as it turned out to be a flop.

Well, on the other hand, Anurag Kashyap had another view on production houses shutting down. While talking to CatchNews.com, Anurag Kashyap said, “We had four Bollywood actors (Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan) in the Forbes highest paid actors whereas rest were Hollywood actors. The films starring the Hollywood actors earn in millions and billions but what our films earn at max is 300 crore. But still there are Indians in that list. So if you see the ratio on the list, business of the film vs income of the actor, there is a huge disparity.”

He also reasoned saying, “Actors from the industry where film earns 300 crore is on the list and on the other hand, there are films which earn 1.2 billion in other industries but the actors are even below our actors on the list. So I hope you got where the issue is. I am not blaming the actors for this, all the blame should be passed on to the producers as they are ready to pay the actor such high amount. Why wouldn’t the actor take that money? If someone pays me, even I would take that. There are so many articles floating around the net wherein people have labelled Mohenjo Daro and Bombay Velvet as the biggest disasters and the blame in passed on these two films for the failure.”

Well, the new crisis in Bollywood has left everyone shocked and looks like, they are holding each other responsible for this!
