MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor is on a high. Her wedding, the attention that she is garnering for her item number ‘Fevicol Se’ in ‘Dabangg 2’ and the recent success of her movie ‘Talaash’. What more could a lady ask for?
So what makes her tick? How does she choose her roles?
“The film might be a potboiler, or it can be a song-and-dance kind; I enjoy both. On a rare occasion, you come across a great script. And then you don’t mind just being part of it. I mean, even Brad Pitt did Babel (2006); I don’t think he had a very good role,” says Kareena.
With ‘Talaash’, Kareena believes that this is another milestone in her career. “It was exactly a decade ago that my career as an actor had taken a turn when I had played a sex worker in ‘Chameli’. I was 22 then. At 32, I have played a sex worker again and this film too has been an important landmark for me,” says Kareena.
For her, sitting through scripts is an arduous task. “So many times, in the first 10-15 minutes of the narration, you’re thinking, ‘Oh my God, I have to sit through this?’ Eventually, I just get busy with my phone,” she said in a recent interview.
In the last five years, Kareena Kapoor has been seen in a variety of roles. From ‘Tashan’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Heroine’. She credits husband Saif Ali Khan for teaching her to choose better roles. She elaborates, “He says the issue with us actors is that we are always looking for the main role. But sometimes you might want to do a particular role, even if it’s the smallest of parts.”
In the meanwhile, the couple is wrapping up professional commitments to leave for their long overdue honeymoon. But not before Kareena spends Christmas with her family.
“I will celebrate Christmas here in the city with my mum and family before I leave for Switzerland. It’s a tradition I follow, to be in the city and attend church for Christmas with mum and Lolo (sister, actor Karisma Kapoor). It’s an important aspect of my memories and also something that I look forward to each year, so yes, the honeymoon will have to wait till after Christmas,” says Kareena.
