MUMBAI: Preparations are underway for Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s 70th Birthday.
The megastar of Bollywood turns 70 on the 11th of October this year. There seems to be media frenzy over his birthday. The entire industry, his fans and family are abuzz regarding the surprise birthday bash being organized for him.
Plans are adrift that Jaya Bachchan, for one, is going to host a dinner on the evening of October 10 to usher her husband’s birthday, as October 11 is going to be reserved for puja and celebrations with family only.
For the Big bash on October 10, we hear, the who’s who of Bollywood will get the invite. Everyone from politicians and sport-stars to B-town celebs want to be on that list.
Apparently, the birthday of one of Bollywood’s biggest stars is likely to be brought in with 1,000 guests at Reliance Studios at Filmcity in suburban Mumbai. It is claimed that three storeys of the building will be dedicated to the event.
Earlier there were reports that the Big Birthday bash would take place at a five star hotel in Mumbai. However, it turns out that the hotel selected, wasn’t available. Hence, the Ambanis offered their spacious studio for the party. Wife Jaya and daughter Shweta are reportedly planning the birthday bash with the help of Anil and Tina Ambani.
Apparently, the theme for the party has been decided and guests have been notified of the dress code.
Designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are assisting Jaya Bachchan in creating a “big surprise”, and they are even designing a special outfit for Big B.
“It is a big surprise. I can’t reveal everything right now. We are designing something special for Mr. Bachchan. You will get to know about everything as you get closer to the big day. Things will get clearer as we will get closer to the event,” said Mr Khosla. “It will be Jaya Bachchan’s event. We will only be helping her with all the preparations. Individually, we are not hosting any party for him.”
Gifts have already started to pour in. One of his fans gifted him a wooden frame with a picture of him and his wife Jaya. Vivek Kumar, a contestant of “Kaun Banega Crorepati 6”, from Uttar Pradesh, gifted a beautiful picture frame made from rosewood, and crafted using an ancient art form, said a source from the set. Kumar first surprised Big B by playing the flute, and later even recited a few couplets.
Canadian dance troupe Cirque Du Soleil is expected to be one of the many national and international acts playing at the party. A documentary film on Amitabh is also likely to be screened.
According to the Big B, all the attention his birthday has been garnering in the media has left him embarrassed. “I am surprised and at times embarrassed by such interest shown,” he wrote on a social networking site. With all the preparations agog, Big B’s birthday bash surely seems all set to be Bollywood’s mega event of the year.
