Bollywood’s Biggest Diwali Clashes

Sawariya-Om-Shanti-Om[tps_footer]Clash between two big bollywood movies isn’t a new thing for us. We are used to the war at the theatres which eventually leave us in a beneficial spot while it affects the business badly.Sometimes there is no clear winner in this battle of might. Yet, our filmmakers don’t refrain from taking on another release. But it is generally Diwali which sees major traction. Diwali is Shahrukh Khan’s domain and the actor has almost always been successful with it. But there are also others who decided to go head-on with him. Here are some of the biggest Diwali clashes.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardar
Nothing can get as big as this. Like how everyone dread a Salman Khan release on Eid, nobody even thinks of sharing theatre screens with a Shah rukh Khan film on Diwali. But Ajay Devgn did. His Son Of Sardar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan released together and the pre-release hoopla was pretty ugly. Ajay accused YRF of monopolizing the market while Shah Rukh maintained his stoic silence. At then end, none of them could make much of a difference in terms of numbers.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
Way back in 1998, when multiplex still hadn’t made the cut, Karan Johar released his first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai alongside David Dhawan’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Both were hugely successful. This is perhaps one of the rare instances where both the biggies prospered despite getting pitted against each other.

Mohabbatein and Mission Kashmir
You don’t challenge a lion in his own den. Vidhu Vinod Chopra released Mission Kashmir alongside Mohabbatein, the return of Aditya Chopra to direction with Shah Rukh Khan as his guiding angel. As was predicted, Mission Kashmir failed to grab as many eyeballs as was expected given the sensational newcomer of the year Hrithik Roshan in it. Mohabbatein sailed past it without any struggle.

Veer Zara and Aitraaz
Veer Zara and Aitraaz clashed and Shah Rukh went ahead of Akshay Kumar. It wasn’t surprising to see Shah Rukh zoom past Akshay it was a love story directed by Yash Chopra. Aitraaz however still managed to get audience.

Don and Jaan E Maan
Don and Jaan E Man clashed, it was clash of the real titans of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan went head to head and SRK emerged victorious.

Om Shanti Om and Saawariya
Again the lion was challenged and the prey became the victim. Saawariya released with Om Shanti Om, despite people asking Sanjay Leela Bhansali to refrain from doing so. As is obvious, Saawariya plunged while Om Shanti Om soared.
