Mandakini was a famous yesteryear actress and screen diva. The lady, who began her career at 16 in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, became a huge hit after the film’s release.
Controversy surrounded her debut film, in which Mandakini was shown bathing under a waterfall wearing only a flimsy white sari. Needless to say, critics felt this was too vulgar and opposed the scene strongly, but she defiantly defended the scene stating it was tastefully done.
In the 1990’s, rumours started circulating that Mandakini was in a relationship with dreaded don Dawood Ibrahim. The actress naturally denied all such rumours. Since then, her career bombed after a spate of unsuccessful films, and she has been living in Mumbai with her husband, a Buddhist monk called Dr. Kagyur T. Rinpoche Thakur. They even have a daughter named Rabze.
So we were naturally surprised to come across the beautiful actress, Mandakini with her family, at Durga Jasraj’s daughter Avani’s wedding held in Mumbai recently. The wedding was quite a starry affair, and we also managed to spot Juhi Chawla, Hema Malini, Nishka Lulla, Neeta Lulla, Shankar Mahadevan and Ashutosh Gowarikar, among other guests.
