According to the latest reports, a fatal accident has occurred on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. The accident led to the death of a horse that was brought to Rajasthan for the shooting of a fighting sequence. Sources close to the film claimed that the horse was already unwell and died due to natural reasons.
Owners Yash Verma and Pappu Verma reportedly brought 18 horses and more elephants to Rajasthan. According to them the horse that died was sick since the day they arrived at Rajasthan probably due to climatic conditions and that the death of the horse was merely a natural phenomenon. The mare was already undergoing medical treatment before the shooting proceeded.
Reportedly during the shooting of the fight sequence the mare that was unwell collided with a horse, collapsed and died soon after the accident. The shoot was cancelled immediately for more than half the day following the fatality. The owners are of an opinion that the production team took very good care of the horses and that the death was unfortunate, but not their mistake.
