MUMBAI: After confirming that Akshay Kumar will play ‘Gabbar‘ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s remake of 2002 Tamil hit ‘Ramana’, the makers have revealed that Ileana D’Cruz will star opposite Akshay as the female lead.
Ileana D’Cruz got noticed after her award winning performance in ‘Barfi!’. Soon, this very talented newcomer was offered a role in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ opposite heartthrob Shahid Kapoor. The actress has now been roped in by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his next big project, ‘Gabbar’
“Ileana started getting numerous film offers after being noticed for her role in ‘Barfi!’. Ramesh Taurani signed her for Raj Kumar Santoshi’s ‘Phata Poster…’ and now she has bagged ‘Gabbar’,” shared a source.
Ileana will be sharing screen space with Khiladi Akshay Kumar, who is working with the filmmaker for the second time after the successful ‘Rowdy Rathore’.
The source also said, “Akshay and Ileana’s chemistry will be interesting to watch. It is quite an unlikely pairing, which Bhansali is trying to explore. Akshay plays the lead role in the film where he fights against corruption.”
‘Gabbar’ will go on floors by the end of 2013, after Akshay completes his shoot schedule for Milan Luthria’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2’ and Ashwin Varde’s ‘Boss’.
