MUMBAI: Imran Khan is most certainly an excited man. For his latest film, ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ has hit theatres yesterday. And who better to celebrate the release of a film than by watching a special screening with your near and dear ones.

Imran Khan did just that; at a special screening of ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ at Ketnav. Accompanied by his beautiful wife Avantika Malik, Imran was all smiles as he soaked in the special screening. The chocolate boy hero Imran was most keen to see his wife’s reaction to his performance in the film. Imran plays the role of ‘Matru’, a village handyman and Man-Friday to drunken feudal landlord Harry Mandola, played by veteran Pankaj Kapur.

Clad in casuals, Imran and Avantika looked picture perfect as the much-in-love couple catching a film on a Friday evening. Imran donned a black tee, blue jeans and a headscarf, while his wife chose a sweater dress to beat Mumbai’s unseasonal chill.

Imran has maintained that ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ is a milestone film for him, and that he was reluctant to attempt playing this role initially. However, director Vishal Bhardwaj convinced him to play the role of Matru by telling him that though he didn’t fit the role to the T, the challenge for Imran as an actor would be to attempt such a diametrically opposite role, and get under the skin of the character.

Imran also maintained a while back that he regards Bhardwaj as a modern-day genius, based on his previous films like ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’ and ‘Kaminey’; and that he was initially intimidated to work with such a senior and accomplished actor such as Pankaj sir. However, during the shooting he got more comfortable and less and less insecure around such legends. His pretty and feisty co-star in ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ agreed with Imran wholeheartedly on the above.
