The latest song to be released by YRF from their eagerly anticipated upcoming film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, starring the King of Romance – Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma is ‘Jiya Re’.
The film marks Yash Chopra’s return to direction after Veer Zaara, and is one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2012.
‘Jiya Re’ is a peppy, upbeat number crooned by Neeti Mohan, penned by Bollywood’s finest lyricist Gulzar saab and music by the Mozart of Madras himself, A R Rahman.
What strikes you on first viewing is that the song is completely picturised on Anushka, the film’s second female lead. She is the centre of attention in this ditty, and disappointingly SRK is left on the fringe of things, so to speak.
Anushka exudes her natural “bubbly” excitement and energy as she dances exuberantly through postcard-green fields of Yashraj’s yesteryear films, even managing to prance on a shikara on what one can assume is the Dal Lake in Kashmir.
The song is catchy, much like its predecessor Challa, where we see SRK crooning with his guitar in the streets of London. The tone of the song is positive with Anushka singing about living each moment to its fullest, and capturing the quintessential joie-de-vivre.
The feel of the song is quite folksy, combining elements and ideas of Sufism, with lyrics like “khudi se maine ishq kiya”.
SRK and Anushka are seen with military men, with SRK in a dapper, manly avatar, complete with a short cropped, military-style hairdo, tight-fitting muscle tees, aviators and a gorgeous stubble that suits him to a T.
Anushka is seen in a sporty-chic avatar, with gunjees, scarves and hot pants to show off those looong, toned legs. The duo is seen indulging in various outdoor activities, like river rappling, running and boating.
The film is touted as one of the biggest releases this year, and is much anticipated for several reasons. It aims to recreate the magic of Yash Chopra’s films of yore, replete with romance, scenic locales and the Baadshah of Romance, SRK doing what he does best (remember those oustretched arms, the intense gaze while looking upon his lover, his crinkled, twinkling eyes and that mischevious, dimpled grin?), the fresh new pairing of SRK-Katrina, return of the hit Jodi SRK-Anushka (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, anyone?), and the coming together of two living legends: Gulzaar saab and A R Rahman.
The story of the film has been kept well under wraps. Pretty much all we know about the characters is that SRK plays an army-man called Samar, and is seen later working at a restaurant and car-wash in London; Anushka plays a reporter/ photojournalist, and Katrina is gorgeous as ever in her flowy chiffon dresses and gowns.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan releases on Diwali, November 13.
