Jail Authorities To Take Action Against Sanjay Dutt’s Furlough

Last month Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who was out on two-week furlough has come into a new problem again. The actor is facing a tough time now.

The states jail administration has decided to take action against him according to the provisions of the prison manual for overstaying his furlough.

Sanjay Dutt had applied for two weeks furlough during the ending of December 2014 to celebrate his birthday and New Year with his family. He was than suppose to return to jail after his two weeks furlough on January 8.

The actor had applied to the court for a furlough extension. To which Yerwada Prison authorities in Pune rejected the plea for extending his furlough and he had to lead back to the Yerwada jail on January 10. The actor spent two extra days of his furlough out waiting for the permission from the authorities.

He gave the reason of his health and some more time to spend with his family for the furlough extension but was rejected.

The director general of police Meera Borwankar conducted the probe against overstay of his furlough. She said that as per the provisions of the prison manual action would be taken against the actor.

According to the violation of rules, the remission period of a prisoner is reduced. So Dutt’s furlough is likely to be suitably reduced. According to the provision of the manual prison rules, for one day, the furlough period is reduced by five days.

Actor Sanjay Dutt is serving his sentence after being convicted in the 1993 Bombay Blasts Case for illegal possession of weapons.

Sanjay Dutt has already been on Furlough for before many times. He has spent over 118 days out of jail, either on parole or furlough between May 2013 and May 2014. He has already served 18 months of his five-year jail term.
