According to reports, a small newspaper article on Mahavir drew Divya Rao’s (from Disney UTV) attention. Divya then discussed the story to Disney Head Sidharth Roy Kapur and other senior executives who were also impressed by the story. And then the hunt for a person to direct as well as write down the entire screenplay began. After a lot of talks, Nitesh Tiwari was finalized to direct the film. Nitesh then went on to talk to the Phogats to know more about their life. Apparently, including the research, it took almost four years to make Dangal.

Dangal also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sanya Malhotra in vital roles. The film is releasing on December 23.
