Nargis Fakhri Is Akshay Kumar’s ‘Shaukeen’

Who does not remember Basu Chatterjee’s classic ‘Shaukeen’, which had three older men, get cupid with a younger woman, Rati Agnihotri. The film also featured Mithun Chakravorty playing Rati Agnihotri’s love interest. Akshay Kumar is set to reprise the role and will romance Nargis Fakri in the ‘Shaukeen’ remake.

MUMBAI: Basu Chatterjee’s cult classic ‘Shaukeen’, had three older men get cupid with a younger woman, Rati Agnihotri. Mithun Chakravorty also featured in the film, playing Rati Agnihotri’s love interest. Rumi Jaffrey of ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ fame is all set to reprise the classic and the remake will have Akshay Kumar and Nargis Fakhri as the lead.

Confirming this story, Rumi Jaffrey said, “We have brought the rights of the film, but have made changes to the script taking into consideration today’s audiences and their views. Nargis is a talented actress and Akshay, a great entertainer.”

Nargis Fakhri finally gets a chance to work with ‘Khiladi’ actor Akshay Kumar. They were supposed to share screen space in ‘Khiladi 786’, but Nargis Fakhri lost out to Asin.

The roles played by the three older men, Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal, would now be played by Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher respectively.

In the age of remakes falling flat, it would be interesting to see if ‘Shaukeen’ manages to tickle one’s funny bone. The Basu Chatterjee version did and in abundance. Maybe with Akshay Kumar, and legends like Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher, this one could be a laugh riot.
