MUMBAI: Shashi Kapoor’s ‘Ajooba’ was the last film that saw Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor share screen space together. It’s after 22 years that Big B and Chintu as the actors are called fondly, will once again unite for Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Mehrunissa’.
Incidentally both the actors were a part of ‘Delhi-6’. While Amitabh Bachchan was the narrator in the film, Rishi Kapoor played the role of Ali Baig. They did not have any scenes together.
In ‘Mehrunissa’ Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor will play estranged friends who haven’t spoken in 25 years. The film will trace the story of two friends who fall in love with a same woman.
A source from the film says, “The two friends, one Hindu and one Muslim fell out because the end up loving the same girl. Now 25 years later, they will confront each other.”
Chitrangada Singh will be playing the love interest of the two men. The actress will not have scenes with the two though. Her portions will be shot by young actors playing Amitabh and Rishi respectively.
Sudhir Mishra has helmed critically acclaimed films like ‘Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ in the past. His last film ‘Inkar’ was a dud.
With Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor joining hands with Mishra on ‘Mehrunissa’, will there be a change of fortunes? It is not easy getting two legends on the same platform after 22 years after all!
‘Mehrunissa’ will begin shooting in September in a start-to-finish schedule in Lucknow.
