MUMBAI: Bollywood has long enjoyed the protection and patronage offered by the Mumbai police force. So it was only natural that they decided to honour the hardworking cops by entertaining them with a fun-filled extravaganza, titled ‘Umang’.
‘Umang’ saw Bollywood’s biggest names in attendance, be it Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh and many many more.
The host for the evening, Manish Paul tried his best to learn some tips and tricks from the King of Romance himself: Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh nattily dressed in a black suit, taught Manish his moves: the outstretched arms, the dimpled grin, the intense, love-locked eyes were all wisdom imparted to young Manish. He even danced spontaneously to his all-time hit ‘Chammak Challo’.
Salman Khan was escorted into the venue by his trusted bodyguard Shera. Coming to the performances, Salman Khan’s was the most electrifying. In his Being Human avatar, this Pandeyji bajaoed the seetis, and the audiences fell quickly in line and applauded his very entertaining act.
Salman’s former girlfriend, Katrina Kaif too performed her superhit numbers, including ‘Chikni Chameli’ and ‘Mashallah’. Katrina dazzled in a white sequinned ghaghra choli and minimal makeup. All eyes, including Salman Khan’s were glued onto her as she gracefully enthrallled the audience with her performance.
The Shehenshah of Bollywood was not far behind. Amitabh Bachchan was punctual as ever, clad in a sharp black bandhgala and those trademark reading glasses, and was seen enjoying the show put up by his fellow stars. Seated in the audience with a senior ranking police officer, and his bahu Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (in a shocking red anarkali) and son Abhishek, Amitabh was the epitome of grace and elegance as always.
Comeback queen Sridevi with Boney Kapoor too made an entry, with her husband Boney Kapoor. Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra also made a hasty red-carpet appearance, in saris.
Priyanka Chopra gave a power-packed performance as well, in a ‘Desi Girl’ avatar. A red sari was her ensemble of choice for the evening.
Akshay ‘Khiladi’ Kumar stunned one and all with his hilarious, energizing policeman act on stage. His once-upon-a-time co-star Katrina Kaif too performed her superhit numbers, including ‘Chikni Chameli’ and ‘Mashallah’.
‘Ram Leela’ superstar Ranveer Singh performed a high-octane number as well. Ajay Devgn, Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh, Sajid Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, Rishi Kapoor, Tabu, Shreya Ghoshal, Dharmendra, Kailash Kher and many other Bollywood personalities were present at ‘Umang’.
