‘Raanjhanaa’ Recreates Benares In Mumbai

MUMBAI: The first media event of the upcoming film ‘Raanjhanaa’ is being held today, May 10. An entire set has been created, resembling Benares at Goregaon Film City here.

It is sure to give its guest a feel of the city. Since the Sonam Kapoor- Dhanush starrer has been shot in Benares, the makers wanted to create a set similar to that of their film’s location.

Anand Rai, the director of ‘Raanjhanaa’, says, “ Our idea behind creating a rustic set was to engage the audience in a pure local Benares experience.”

A source close to the film said, “The director was immensely moved by Benares. When he was shooting for the film he faced a lot of problems. It is then he decided that he will recreate the city like Kashmir and foreign locations which are put up in Goregaon Film City. He took it as a challenge and has managed to capture the essence of the old city in the event planned for today.”

The official filming began in Varanasi, in early September 2012 and continued for 40 days in and around the city. The film stars actor Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles are going to be seen as 17 year old teenagers in the movie.
