NEW DELHI: Bollywood stars Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and others took on Virat Kohli’s team of cricketers, at a charity football match in New Delhi.
As part of a charity match for the Magic Bus Foundation, Bollywood celebrities collided headlong with cricketing stars, in a star-studded celebrity football match. Abhishek Bachchan led his team, which included Ranbir Kapoor, Dino Morea and others, as they fought tooth and nail to score goals against Virat Kohli’s team.
Clad in blue jerseys, our Bollywood boys Abhishek and Ranbir nearly cinched the deal, with their aggressive attack and clever defense. However, Virat and his gang of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh (dressed in red jerseys) were too quick on their feet.
Inevitably, the cricketers won the match, with a very close call of 4-3, against the All Star Football Club (ASFC), led by Abhishek and co-captained by Ranbir. The crowd had a blast at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the capital city, with eager fans cheering both sides on equally aggressively.
Ranbir was reportedly the star player, who led his team up from a dismal 4-0, to a respectable 4-3 end score with his impressive dribbling skills. Says Abhishek, of his vice-captain RK, “The Indian cricketers are in a habit of winning matches with a scoreline of 4-0. We were scared we would get the same treatment, but all credit to our team especially Ranbir for having fought so brilliantly against the cricketers.”
Ranbir was nevertheless heartbroken that they’d come so close to winning, especially since they had practised for months. “Everyone who was regularly practising with us today, was given a chance to play. There is nothing to be ashamed of in losing 4-3 and it was an honour to step up and compete against the mighty cricketers.”
