1983 has very special place in every cricket lovers’ heart in India. This was the year when India, ably led by skipper Kapil Dev, lifted the World Cup for the first time. We did reclaim the glory in 2011, but the first one will alway be special as Cricket in those days wasn’t as glittering as it is today. No wonder we still consider Kapil Dev the baap of Indian Cricket. So when Lahore director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan announced a film on 1983, we were elated and waiting to know who would play Dev. Now we have the answer.
Randeep Hooda has been apparently signed to play Kapil Dev in 1983. Now we think this is an absolutely fabulous choice. One, Randeep comes from Haryana and Dev too has Haryana roots. This will help Randeep get into the character easily. The body language and the accent are just there.
Second, Randeep has the right physique to be an agile cricketer. His frame even matches the Kapil of 1983. Now we just hope this news is true
