Raw Deal For AR Rahman’s ‘Raanjhanaa’: Music Rights Sold For Rs 6 Crores

Anand Rai’s new film ‘Raanjhanaa’ starring Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor and having music by the legendary AR Rahman seals a raw deal. Music rights of the film sold for a whooping Rs 6 crores.

Mumbai: Dhanush’s Bollywood debut surely has set the hype for Anand L Rai’s ‘Raanjhanaa’ starring Sonam Kapoor. But what is even more noteworthy about the film is the music by Oscar winner AR Rahman.

‘Raanjhanaa’ album might not have released yet and the only song we hear over trailers has been ‘Tum Tak’. With just one song released, what comes as a huge bonus for ‘Raanjhanaa’, is that the film’s music rights have been sold for a whooping Rs 6 crores.

While ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Ghajini’ also fetched good prices, this is the biggest deal sealed in recent times. Sony Music and Eros International have partnered to distribute the music of ‘Raanjhanaa’.

A source close to the film says, “This is due to the sheer popularity of AR Rahman.”

‘Raanjhanaa’ directed by ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ director Anand L Rai releases on 21 June. With the music being sold for such a whooping price, we shall wait to see if the satellite rights get the same attention. But what is more important is whether ‘Raanjhanaa’ is able to get cash registers ringing at the box office.
