RIP Deven Verma: You Always Made Us Laugh, Bollywood Pays Tribute 

Deven-vermaVeteran actor-comedian, director and producer Deven Verma passed away at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune at about 1.30 am on Tuesday December 2, 2014. Reportedly he had been unwell for some time and was suffering from heart problem and diabetes.
He was 77 and is survived by his wife Rupa Ganguly. Rupa is the younger daughter of the late legendary actor Ashok Kumar. Reportedly, Deven Verma was unwell for the last one and a half years. He had diabetes and had developed heart problem as well. He was hospitalised on Monday evening and was in the ICU and at about 1.30 he passed away. His funeral took place at 12 noon at Yerwada today.
Mr Verma was born on October 23, 1937 and grew up in Pune. He studied Politics and Sociology at Pune’s Nowrosjee Wadia College.
He is best remembered for roles in movies such as Angoor, Golmaal, Chori Mera Kaam, Rang Birangi, Chor Ke Ghar Chor, Andaz Apna Apna, Bemisal, Judaai, Kora Kagaz, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Ishq’, ‘Kya Kehna’, ‘Salaakhein’, ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ and ‘Hulchul’. His last Hindi film was ‘Calcutta Mail’playing actress Rani Mukerji‘s grandfather that released in 2003.
Verma won three Filmfare awards in his career for his performances in films such as Chori Mera Kaam, Chor Ke Ghar Chor and Angoor.
Apart from Hindi films, Deven Varma also acted in Marathi and Bhojpuri films.  He also tried his hands at producing films but success evaded him there. Besides producing five films, Deven Verma also directed four films, Nadaan, Bada Kabutar, Besharam and Daana Paani.
