Salman Khan Hit And Run Case: Actor Arrives At The Mumbai Court

Yesterday, Bollywood’s superstar Salman Khan arrived at the Mumbai court for the hearing of 2002 hit and run case.

Police inspector Rajendra Kadam, who registered the case against Salman Khan for alleged rash and negligent driving explained to the court the night of accident.

Explaining the whole accident situation of that night, he said that on September 28, 2002, he got a call saying a vehicle had dashed into American Express bakery on Hill Road.

He said that when he reached the spot, he saw people had gathered and a Land Cruiser had rammed into the shutter of American Express. Where four people were injured in the accident, and one was dead. The control room called for a crane and they immediately took the injured to Bhabha Hospital.

Continuing, he said that Ravindra Patil, the constable who was then Khan’s bodyguard, was being pushed around at the accident spot. They pulled out Ravindra Patil out and asked him about what happened.

Later his statement was recorded at the police station and registered the case against Salman Khan under Sections 304A (death by negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and Section 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

He also stated that he did not find Salman Khan at the spot. Next day in the morning, he went to his house in Galaxy Apartments, which are 200 metres from the accident spot. He didn’t find the accused there as well.

Police Inspector Rajendra Kadam described the vehicle of Salman Khan. He said  “It had climbed three steps of American bakery. The number plate was lying on the spot.”

During the last hearing, the prosecution had earlier made a request to record the statement of the evidence given by the actor’s then bodyguard constable Ravindra Patil, who died few years ago. According to which, Patil had stated that he was seated beside Salman Khan when the mishap took place and had warned the actor not to drive in such a condition but Salman paid him no heed.
