Most production houses are the victim of tantrums, replacements without due notice, dishonoring of contracts and the like by TV stars. Deepika Singh became a household name after playing the character of Sandhya in popular TV show Diya Aur Baati Hum.
The show went off air mid-September on a sad note where the protagonists Sandhya (Deepika) and Sooraj (Anas Rashid) met a fateful death in a bomb blast while saving the country from the clutches of the terrorists.
Deepika garnered a lot of popularity and awards for her role of a bahu to a tough IPS officer. The latest news is that Deepika is upset with the makers of the show as the production house has not cleared her dues yet.
As per the reports, the actress is yet to receive an amount of Rs. 1.14 Crores as her payment. Reportedly, the makers owe Deepika an enormous Rs. 90 lakhs acting fee and an additional Rs. 24 lakhs interest which brings the total to over Rs. 1 crore and they aren’t clearing her dues.
The makers want to slash her fee and have allegedly asked her to settle for Rs. 67 lakh by claiming that she was reporting late to the shoot. Apparently, they have adopted a similar technique with the other actors on the show who agreed to leave the issue with a lump sum amount.
But a strong headed Deepika has decided that if her payments aren’t cleared she would opt for a legal course, or go to CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes Association).
A leading portal reported that “Shashi and Sumeet (the producers) wanted the actors to finish off their outstanding amounts (the show went off the air on September 10 this year) by accepting a lump-sum amount. Deepika is not ready for any such settlement. She was the lead on the show who sweated it out almost every day on the sets, why should she allow herself to be shortchanged?”
