Veena Malik has had a good chunk of controversies during her active years in Bollywood. Known to be an unlikely figure in her home country Pakistan, Veena has now slipped into a big trouble with the law on the lines of hurting religious sentiments.
The whole story :- Wuthu Jago Pakistan a programme telecast by Geo TV on May 14, showed a mock marriage between Veena Malik and her husband Asad Bashir Khan. The programme which was broadcast live reportedly showed Veena Malik dancing with her husband while a group of Sufi musicians sang a devotional song about the wedding of the Prophet Muhammad’s daughter. After religious groups objected, the channel publicly apologized and published an apology in the group’s English and Urdu newspapers.

A Petition was filed against them stating that they had use derogatory language and were guilty of committing blasphemy by airing objectionable content against the family of Prophet Muhammad. Based on this accusation an anti-terrorism court in Gilgit-Baltistan had sentenced Veena Malik, her husband Asad Bashir Khan, the owner of Pakistan’s Geo TV and Jang Group Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and TV anchor Shaista Lodhi to 26 years imprisonment.
The judge, Raja Shehbaz Khan also placed a fine of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees on each of them as well. They can of course appeal against the judgment. However, the sigh of temperory relief for them is that they can appeal againsat the judgement in the regional high court in Gilgit- Baltistan.

Talking about this to a local newspaper the actress said, “26 years! Come on. 26 years is a lifetime… But I have faith in higher courts in Pakistan. When the final verdict comes, it will do justice to me. Nothing bad is going to happen. I have faced highs and lows in my life. But I am sure I haven’t done anything wrong.”
