Bollywood’s young fashionista Sonam Kapoor is known for speaking her mind. Sonam is known to strive towards building a better platform for women in our country and has a feminist approach towards things. In a recent award show, when asked how she felt about Oscar winner Patricia Arquette’s winning speech Sonam gave quite a blunt reply.
Boyhood actress Patricia Arquette won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscar. In her winning speech she talked about wage equality for women in the industry. Patricia stated, “It’s our time to have wage equality — once and for all.” When Sonam Kapoor was asked to give her opinion on the same the young actress stated that according to her, there is no wage inequality in Bollywood industry at least.

Sonam stated, “Honestly, we have something called as a market price in our country. If I open a film on certain amount it doesn’t make sense for the producer to pay me as much as he is paying the lead actor of that category.” The Dolly Ki Dolly actress went further and compared herself to ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor saying that if the Roy actor opens at the box-office on a higher rate than her then their wages will also differ.
According to Sonam Kapoor the matter of wage given to an artist is simple mathematics. “I feel at least in the film industry I will get paid the price that I ask for if the returns are what is expected. The brands that I am associated know what my market price is. So it’s what I bring back to the brand,” the 29-year-old actress stated. Sonam further added, “I know a lot of male actors who don’t earn as much as I do. Hopefully when my market grows, so will my price.” Seems like Sonam Kapoor has got all the wisdom and knowledge from her father Anil Kapoor’s experience.
Sonam Kapoor is currently working with Salman Khan for her upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
