The film is based on drugs trafficking in Punjab. In Udta Punjab, Shahid Kapoor will be seen romancing his Shaandar co-star Alia Bhatt, where as Kareena Kapoor Khan has been cast opposite Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh. However, even after being in the same film after a really long time, Kareena and Shahid will not share the screen space.

Earlier, the lead actor of the film, Shahid revealed that his role in the film happens to be the most challenging roles of his career. Shahid, took to his Instagram account to share the news with his fans. The actor shared a picture of Director Abhishek Chaubey with clapshot. Shahid captioned the picture, “UDTA PUNJAB takes off . This ones special . Wish us luck guys . It’s a tough tough film . We need your love .”
