There is a famous proverb that says that ‘Behind every successful man, there is a woman’. However cliched it may sound, we can’t help but deny that this is probably true in the case of Bollywood’s superstar Shah Rukh Khan. In fact, we’re sure Shah Rukh Khan himself would agree to it.
Gauri Khan (originally Gauri Chibber) met Shah Rukh Khan while at Delhi, much before Shah Rukh Khan was a household name. They met in 1984 when Shah Rukh Khan was yet a struggling actor.
But Gauri Chibber was sure a great support system to him. Around 1988, Shah Rukh Khan started appearing on television. Roles in ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’ made him a household name’, but the big breakthrough into films had not happened. And then, in 1991, Shah Rukh Khan married Gauri.
Marriage is often considered career suicide for aspiring actors and actresses in Bollywood. But Shah Rukh Khan, even though he experimented with various roles, was always faithful to his wife. And Gauri Khan too supported him in each and everything.
That’s not to say that Gauri Khan never aspired for anything. In the mid-nineties, Gauri Khan hosted a weekly countdown show for MTV called ‘Oye’. But her interest was into fashion and more so into interior designing, which raised its head when she was prepping up their dream home in Bandra – ‘Mannat’.
But before she could nurture her interior designing, she got into production. Gauri Khan was one of the co-founders of Red Chillies Entertainment, along with Shah Rukh Khan. Her first film as producer was ‘Main Hoon Naa’, which was a huge hit. Since then, there’s been no looking back for Gauri Khan, the producer.
Gauri Khan has gone on to produce a lot of hits, most of them with her husband in the lead roles. And then in 2010, she finally made her earlier dream come true. Along with good friend Suzanne Roshan, Hrithik Roshan’s wife, she designed exclusive interior projects together.
Gauri Khan has handled her personal and professional career well. With three children in Aryan, Suhana and AbRam, she has maintained the home well while also being part of the filmy world. In Shah Rukh Khan’s own words, “I think it’s very difficult to live with a person like me. So I value her for the crap she takes from me, the lack of time I give her and the kind of person I am.”
In fact, Shah Rukh Khan even showed his appreciation for his wife on Twitter, where #HappyBirthdayGauriKhan trended for a long time last night.
A union doesnt just happen, its created. On her B’day i thank Gauri for having created a lovely family with love, grace & 3 adoreable reasons

It’s good to see a couple last so long in Bollywood, even through thick and thin. The star that Shah Rukh Khan is today is due to his fans, but the man that he is today is most probably due to his wife Gauri Khan. Happy birthday Gauri!
