Dream Run: Karan Johar’s ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ is another addition to the 100 crore club in 2013 after ‘Race 2’ and ‘Aashiqui 2’. The film within seven days of its release has broken box-office records and is continuing its dream run. It has managed to overpower Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ franchisee, which collected 100 crores in 8 days. Truly a moment of celebration, not just for Bollywood, but for Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji, whose second outing post ‘Wake Up Sid’, also has generated huge applause.
RIP Jiah Khan: Last week it was Rituparno Ghosh, and now another starlet, all of 25 has passed away. Jiah Khan, the young beauty, who made her debut alongside Amitabh Bachchan in Ram Gopa Varma’s ‘Nishabd’ hung herself to death. The actress was battling depression and a failed relationship. She did not achieve much fame with her three films – Nishabd, Ghajini and Housefull 2, but her sudden suicide sent a huge shockwave across the industry. From Aamir Khan to Amitabh Bachchan to Ram Gopal Varma, and several others, all expressed their heartfelt condolences to the actress and her family. What was even more shocking was to see Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi, who is yet to make his foray into Bollywood, being dragged into police questioning. Apparently Jiah Khan had last spoken to Sooraj Pancholi before committing suicide. The actor and his father could not hold back their tears and Aditya Pancholi came out in open and said, his son Sooraj Pancholi is unnecessarily being dragged into controversy. Well Jiah Khan, 25 is surely not the age to die. RIP Jiah Khan.
Shilpa Shetty – Good Lord Why? – While it just seemed that the IPL frenzy had toned down a bit, a stunning revelation about Shilpa Shetty’s husband and partner Raj Kundra being involved in spot fixing stunned Bollywood. While Shilpa Shetty lambasted the media over false allegations over Twitter, once Raj Kundra admitted, Shilpa Shetty’s twitter handle rather fell silent. The actress, just a day before had made a supposedly barefoot walk to Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple along with Raj Kundra. Sixth –sense or mere co-incidence, we are still wondering. Sadly, her godly act made lesser news than her beau’s involvement. Where’s the next destination Shilpa Shetty? Tirupati?
