MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Himmatwala’, directed by Sajid Khan, starring Ajay Devgn and southern star Tamannaah, has taken a fair opening at the box office on opening day.

‘Himmatwala’ released on 29 March, Friday, and it appears that the long weekend and end of exams season has been the perfect time to release the film. ‘Himmatwala’ is a remake of the 1983 film of the same name, which starred Jeetendra and Sridevi.

Standing at an even 50% occupancy in the morning shows going up to 70% in the evening; ‘Himmatwala’ has, as expected, done better in mass markets, with the single screens contributing a lion’s share of the business of the film.

The Day 1 collections of the film are approximately Rs 118.2 million (Rs 11.82 crore net).

‘Himmatwala’ has not been appreciated in the bigger circuits so far, and has not found favour with the elite multiplex audiences. Even critics have completely slammed the film. But despite rotten reviews, Sajid Khan films have been known to perform well at the box office. With the long weekend looming, the collections of ‘Himmatwala’ look set to do well.
