MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Anybody Can Dance’ or ‘ABCD’, which is directed by choreographer Remo D’Souza, has taken a poor opening day at the box office. The film stars choreographers Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Terence Lewis and dancer Salman Yusuf Khan in the lead roles.
Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD’ has accrued a dull figure of Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crore net) on its opening day. Interestingly, ‘ABCD’ began the day on a better note than the other big release this Friday – Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Special Chabbis’, however towards the evening the tables turned, and the latter fared better than the former. The highest business came from multiplexes in Mumbai and Delhi.
The fact that the film is for a niche audience (read: dance lovers) and the promotional campaign was quite low-key may have been the cause of such bleak numbers for ‘ABCD’. Though ‘ABCD’ will see Prabhu Deva reprise his ‘Muqabla’ dance number, the film has so far failed to make a mark on Day 1, at the box office. It remains to be seen whether ‘ABCD’ can fight off the competition from Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Special 26’, which stars superstar Akshay Kumar as a fake CBI officer, conducting raids and stealing away the black money of rich politicians and black marketeers.
